Irina Khalip has been allowed a meeting with Andrei Sannikov
The authorities have allowed the journalist Irina Khalip to see her husband, the Belarusian presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov. He was sentenced (as was she) in the matter of "19 December".
“They have allowed me to see him tomorrow,” Khalip told “Interfax” by telephone on Tuesday.
She also said, “It is not yet clear what things I am allowed to do, and most importantly whether I can engage in professional activity”.
On 14 May, the Partizanskii District Court of Minsk found A. Sannikov guilty of organizing riots in Minsk and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment, to be served in a “strict regime” prison.
On 16 May, the Zavadskii District Court of Minsk sentenced his wife, Irina Khalip, to two years’ imprisonment, suspended for two years. I. Khalip was sentenced under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus: organizing group actions which breach public order, or taking an active part in them.
At the present time, since the affair of “19 December”, a total of 25 people have been sentenced.
