Andrei Sannikov: “Hello, mum”
Alla Sannikova, the mother of presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, has been allowed to visit her son.
Alla Sannikova has told how, on 23 May, she visited the Partizanskii District Court of Minsk, which had passed sentence on her son. She was informed that the meeting would be allowed.
The mother of the sentenced politician has not yet decided when exactly she will go to the Ministry of Internal Affairs prison in Volodarskii Street, where Andrei Sannikov is held. She noted that the permit is valid for three days.
Immediately after the verdict was passed, Andrei Sannikov sent his mother a letter from the prison:
“Hello, mum. Was glad to see everyone, especially you, and to satisfy myself that you are alive and well. They allowed us to look at each other once again in silence for a few days – it is absurd.
Alexei (second cousin) is simply a hero. He was moving very briskly, even if with a stick. Galya (second cousin) was worrying a lot. No need for that – everyone is alive and healthy. Glad you met my pals, and was glad to see them next to you. I saw them all and am grateful to everyone. This support is very important to me. Before God and man, I am not guilty, and those who are trying to prove the opposite are criminals.
A new stage is beginning. It must be understood. Take care of yourself. Lots of hugs and kisses.”
We remind you that Andrei Sannikov was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, to be served in “strict regime” prison. Sannikov was convicted under Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code (organization of mass disturbances).
Alla Vladimirovna Sannikova is 78 years old, but for 5 months, she was constantly carrying parcels to her son in the KGB detention centre and was at every court session of her son’s case.
