Solidarity Actions took place all over Belarus
Actions of solidarity with political prisoners and families of disappeared politicians were held on June 16 in the evening in a number of Belarusian cities.
Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” and Young Front organisation in Hrodna, Brest, Mahilyou, Pinsk, Salihorsk, Babrujsk and a number of other cities have expressed their support to political prisoners.
In Hrodna activists gathered near the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier in the centre of the city. Young people were holding portraits of Andrei Kim, Alyaksandr Kazulin, Syarhei Parsyukevich, and of the politicians abducted by the regime. Besides, the democratic activists placed streamers with the number “16” and words “Remember!” on the buildings in the centre of the city.
In Brest young people formed a live chain in the centre of the city, on the crossing of Masherau Avenua and Kasmanautau Avenue. They were holding portraits of young people convicted in the Process of Fourteen. During the rally policemen detained two participants: Yauhen Skrabets and Syarhei Srednikau. They were taken to the police department of Leninski district. After providing written explanations they were released.
On the Day of Solidarity activists of Salihorsk branch of the Young Front traditionally gathered on the central square of the city with portraits of disappeared politicians and political prisoners Andrei Kim, Alyaksandr Kazulin and Syarhei Parsyukevich. The rally finished without detentions. Though there were many policemen on the squire, they were not disbanding the young people, but only videoed the protest.
In Pinsk young people gathered in the centre of the city with a streamer “Freedom to Political Prisoners!” and portraits of abducted politicians and political prisoners. An activist of the “European Belarus” Alyaksei Shloma was detained and sentenced to a fine of 20 basic units before the rally.
In Babrujsk pro-democracy activists held an action of solidarity with political prisoners near the colony where Andrei Kim is serving the sentence.
