Participants of protest action near Russian embassy arrested
“No to Russia, yes to Europe!” Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” planed to hold an action near the Russian embassy under this slogan. But militia didn’t let youth activists express their protest against Russia’s offence against independence of our country.
According to the information of the Charter’97 press center, at least two girls were detained and guarded in an unknown direction by militia cars. They don’t answer their telephones now.
Only some people managed to reach the embassy. But they were not allowed to unfurl their banners and posters. As soon as first participants of the action tried to unfurl banners, some militia cars drove up and some girls were detained. The rest of the people saw it and had to disperse on the way to the embassy.
Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” planned to hold a protest action near the Russian embassy against a threat of Belarus’ loss of independence and the country’s possible forcible joining to Russia.
A loss of sovereignty has really become to threaten Belarus lately. Russia promised to raise gas prices up to USD 200 till the end of the year while the official Minsk is trying to gain freezing gas prices. But the Kremlin offers an alternative variant of the so called confederation – a softer variant of Belarus’ merging in Russia.
