Emanuelis Zingeris has warned Sannikov’s prison authorities
The vice-chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Lithuanian Seimas has appealed to the leadership of the prison at Bobruisk.
Let us remind you that the presidential candidate, Andrei Sannikov, is serving his sentence in the penal colony No. 2 at Bobruisk.
Emanuelis Zingeris, in the letter to S.L. Kravchenko, the head of the prison colony No. 2, declares:
“According to the information we have, the presidential candidate of the Republic of Belarus, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, Andrei Sannikov, has been transferred to penal colony No. 2. In connection with the closed nature of the said institution, we are concerned about the lack of control over the conditions of detention; there are also concerns about the use of torture and cruel, inhuman, degrading treatment of A. Sannikov.
Andrei Sannikov has been recognised by Belarusian and international human rights organizations as a political prisoner, and the well-known human rights organization ‘Amnesty International’ has acknowledged him as a prisoner of conscience.
We are following further developments of the situation regarding Andrei Sannikov and urge you to refrain from any action or lack of action that could harm the health and psychological state of A. Sannikov.”
