Participants of solidarity rally betaken by police called up to police

One of the leaders of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Zmitser Barodka has been called up to the police department of Tsentralny district of Minsk.

To the police department the oppositionist has been called up by a phone call. Policemen haven’t explained the reason of calling him up, but they stated that it was connected with the rally on February 16, on the Day of Belarusian Solidarity, on October Square in Minsk.

As we have informed, the peaceful rally of solidarity with political prisoners was disbanded by policemen and riot policemen. Dozens of people who gathered on the square with portraits of prisoners of conscience Mikalay Autukhovich, Yury Lyavonau and Uladzimir Asipenka, were beaten up.

One of the leaders of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Zmitser Barodka was beaten up as well. He tried to shield with his body a girl who fell on the ground after a strike of a riot policeman. After that riot policeman kicked him on the temple by his leg. The head of the politician started bleeding, and he had to seek medical help.

The oppositionist told to the Charter’97 press-centre that he is not going to go to the police department of Tsentralny district of Minsk without receiving a writ.
