An action demanding to release opposition activists, unlawfully arrested after the blast in Minsk on 4 July, was dispersed today at October square in Minsk. More than 50 people came to the square with portraits of political prisoners, and unfurled national Belarusian and EU flags. More than 100 riot militiamen were thrown against the people.

The Tsentralny district court of Minsk found activist of the “European Belarus” civil campaign Palina Kuryanovich guilty with “hooliganism”. Militia detained her because she had a EU flag in her bag.

Paval Yukhnevich, activist of the “European Belarus” civil campaign, is serving his 7-day arrest in the jail on Akrestin Street in Minsk since today.

Today an activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Alyaksandr Atroshchankau has been released from the prison in Akrestsin Street after a 15-day arrest.

“There isn’t much new in the position of Polish diplomacy. For a long time a line to recognition of the Lukashenka’s regime has been pursued confidentially, but today it was likely to be decided to avow it. If information about new Poland’s approaches towards the situation in Belarus is true, it can’t be named other than treachery of the Solidarity movement’s ideals,” Andrei Sannikov, international coordinator of Charter’97, one of the leaders of the “European Belarus” civil campaign, said.
